Principles of Animation: Bouncing Ball/Falling off a cliff part 1
We were first asked to drop multiple balls onto the ground to see how they bounce and observe how they move. Then our task was to animate the ball bouncing onto the ground both digitally and on paper.
We were also taught to use TVpaint, a software that I have learnt before but am still not familiar with since I have been trained to use Toonboom Harmony for my BA years. Hence, the journey of getting used to TVpaint took a little bit for me to get used to but I still managed.
It wasn’t hard to do any of these exercises since I have done all of it before. Hence, I was able to continue cleaning the rough version and improve the bouncing ball with the shapes/weight.
The hardest part is paper animation since I have to plan more carefully on the size and the movement. Therefore, it took me longer to finish it. However, I was able to do two different balls – Metal and Ping pong balls.
Reflection from the class:
Because I have done it before, I felt like the results should be even better, so I was somewhat disappointed in myself and questioned my skills for the first few hours. However, I was able to introduce ‘Smear frames’ to my animation for better effects, so I was pretty happy to be able to apply my knowledge to the animations.
It was a fun experience that I hope I can polish to be greater than it is.
Life drawing (6th October): Gestures drawing

Reflection from the class:
Finding the beans has never been my strong suit so I was struggling yet again although I could see that I got a little bit better from last week. I tried to focus more on the chest/pelvis since they either make or break the pose.
Overall week 2 reflection:
It was great that I got to do the exercises that I have done before since it helped sharpen my skills and keep me open-minded for potential improvement. Even though I struggled a little bit with the paper animation, I found it quite enjoyable too.
My aim for next week is to try complicating the animation more just to challenge myself.
