Week 3:

This is a personal journal started from 10th of October

Principles of Animation: Bouncing Ball/Falling off a cliff part 2

Ball bouncing

I wanted to explore something more complicated this week, so I decided to include a lot of smear frames in the animation. I wanted it to look somewhat unrealistic but still keep the impression that it’s a ball by exaggerating its shapes of it.

Ball falling off a cliff

I also included several smear frames onto the cliff exercise and made the ball looks bouncier than my last week’s animation.

To make the ball looks more realistic, I made sure to make it rolls back a little before coming to a stop.

Reflection from class:

I had more joy trying to complicate the animation and make it more interesting than last week, so I think I could say I have accomplished my tiny goal.

I got feedback about my smear frames though since it looks like it has been stretching way too much compared to what the teacher had it mind.

Still, I had no regret trying something new and look forward to future exercises.

Life drawing (13th October): Gestures Drawing

Reflection from class:

I couldn’t find ‘The Bean’ and was struggling throughout. I was so down I thought of quitting.

Still, I tried asking my teachers about what I can do to improve and tried to apply what I learnt from them to the drawings.

The set of drawings today have not satisfied me as I know I can do better.

Overall week 3 reflection:

This week is a week of trying something new and applying my knowledge to the works. It was hard at first but I had fun experimenting and seeing my art style shifting in a direction that I don’t usually see myself doing.

I feel like I have become more open-minded about criticism and feedback and could see my work improving compared to my first week.
